Dundas West Open Air Museum Unveils “PASSAGE” – A New Mural by Brother Moises
Celebrating Migration & Resilience
Toronto, ON – [July 22, 2025] – The Dundas West Open Air Museum proudly presents “PASSAGE”, a striking new public artwork by internationally acclaimed artist Brother Moises (Moises Frank – Canada/Spain/Nicaragua), now on display at 1351 Dundas Street West in Toronto.
This powerful mural portrays the lives of fisherwomen and fishermen in Nazareth, Portugal, while weaving a broader narrative of migration through European ports—a journey that has stretched from Africa to Europe and onward to Canada and North America. Through vivid figurative representations of port workers, Brother Moises captures both the labor of these communities and the historic patrimony and architecture of Portugal’s coastline, telling a story of resilience, movement, and the universal right to live in peace.
“PASSAGE” is the latest addition to the Dundas West public art corridor, stretching from Shaw Street to Lansdowne Avenue—a neighborhood deeply shaped by generations of migrants from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The official inauguration of the new public mural will take place next Thursday July 31 at 11am, at the mural location.
Artist Statement – Brother Moises (1995 – )
“Passage refers to moving through, under, or over from one place to another. This speaks to migration and integration, and a collective consideration of where we once were, where we are now, and where we are going. Passage is also a reference to a paragraph or sentence from poetry—as this piece, to me, is a poetic conversation between the colours.”
Curator Statement – Rodrigo Ardiles (1973 -)
“After eight years of artistic collaboration and community engagement, we are thrilled to add this masterpiece to Toronto’s public art route on Dundas Street West. It stands as an example of cultural resilience, diversity, and creativity. We are grateful and honored to have worked with Moises on this mural and hope the community embraces it with the same passion we have.”
Supported by local partners, the Dundas West Open Air Museum continues to celebrate the art, history, and multicultural legacy of this vibrant neighborhood, sharing its stories with both local and international audiences.
